GREY WARDENS
PersonnelReportsArchivesInbox
The Grey Wardens are in crisis: in Weisshaupt, the First Warden has led a coup that Corypheus may or may not be behind; elsewhere, it's unclear who among the Wardens can be trusted and who is under his sway; and darkspawn showing symptoms similar to those infected by red lyrium have been sighted. Those Wardens who stood against Commander Clarel's plans to bind a demon army and destroy the Old Gods in the Deep Roads—or those who were just lucky enough not to be involved—have allied with the Inquisition and are headquartered in the Gallows, with additional forces assisting at Griffon Wing Keep and Valeska's Watch.

NAME: Alistair
DIVISION: Research
CONTACT: Inbox
SKILLS & EXPERTISE: Templar-trained Blight veteran who's killed more darkspawn than all y'all and has been making people angry with questions about Corypheus for four years.

CURRENT WORK: In addition to co-babysitting the Wardens (he's the fun dad, until he's suddenly not) he's assisting the Inquisition's teams with red lyrium and Corypheus-focused research, with an obsessive focus on trying to find out what happened to the Wardens involved in his original capture, where they went, what they used to catch him, etc.

COMPLETED WORK & REPORTS:

  • Compiled notes on Corypheus' capture
  • Protecting Lusacan's prison
  • Sample background obsession
  • Other stuff

    CONTACT: inbox
SKILLS & EXPERTISE: murder, stealth, stealthy murder, a variety of shady activities akin to a Bard but without the sophistication or connections to Orlais, being grumpy

CURRENT WORK: Nothing active in-game, but it can be assumed she's always managing supplies for the Wardens and vetting correspondence to and from the rest of the Inquisition.

    COMPLETED WORK & REPORTS:

    - the Great Weisshaupt Shitshow
    - helped rescue these two dipshits
    - went to find Corypheus while never intending to actually find him because he wasn't there and she knew that

    Lusacan

    [personal profile] byblow 2018-02-04 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
    SUBJECT:
PARTICIPANTS: Alistair, Anders, Kaisa, Teren, Velanna, Hercules, some civilian scrubs
    DATE FILED: Solace 9:42
    STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: In light of the possibility that Corypheus may have had real plans for the Old Gods rather than just using them to convince the Wardens to do blood magic, a team went down to make sure that Wardens who may be under Corypheus' control can't find or reach the Old God imprisoned in the Western Approach without a lot of trouble. The path to reach Lusacan's prison was obscured or blocked by magical seals in a way that will make it very difficult for Wardens other than those at Skyhold to find their way there. And Hercules Hansen died.

    REPORT: Too lazy.

To sign up for an assignment, reply to this comment with the below form by March 8.

    ASSIGNMENT: MISSING SHIPMENTS
WHAT: Supplies bound for the Wardens at the Gallows have failed to arrive, but the merchants responsible for them insist they were delivered. Figure out what happened to them and make sure it doesn't continue to happen. (This will primarily involve scouting and talking to people rather than combat.)
    WHERE: Free Marches.
    WHEN: Sometime in Drakonis.
WHO: 1-2 Wardens, who can bring additional non-Warden to help if they want.

    ASSIGNMENT: DARKSPAWN IN THE MOUNTAINS
WHAT: Darkspawn are harassing travelers in the mountain paths connecting Kirkwall to the inland Marches. Taking care of them and making sure that more can't easily follow might help the Wardens' reputation with the Inquisition and with Kirkwall. (Mainly combat.)
    WHERE: Vinmark Mountains.
    WHEN: Sometime in Drakonis.
WHO: 1-3 Wardens, who can each bring an additional non-Warden to help if they want, as long as there's a good reason and a plan to keep them from getting tainted.

    ASSIGNMENT: GRIFFON WEIRDNESS
WHAT: Some of the griffons will begin acting strangely. Are they sick? Are they unhappy in the Gallows? Figure it out before they all DIE.
    WHERE: The Gallows.
    WHEN: Sometime in Drakonis.
WHO: 1-2 Wardens, who can bring in others as necessary.

Hello! Thanks for signing up. You got the griffons!

WHO: Bethany and Carver. You can also involve other people as much as you want.

WHEN: Try to have a report done by the end of April.

WHAT: Some of the griffons have been particularly ornery lately. Specifically, Flea has gotten particularly territorial and snappish, Buttons has been demonstrating more apparent distress at his frequent separation from the rest of the griffons, and Uggie and Burp have both taken to disappearing for long periods of time and returning separately, primarily for meals. It is up to your characters to figure out what is wrong!

Following Uggie and Burp will take some effort and would most easily be accomplished by tailing them on other griffons, but hiking it out is also workable. Either way, they can be tracked to caves high in the unpopulated cliffs near Kirkwall, near the sea. They will initially not want to let anyone into their cave, especially not other griffons, but if everyone is very quiet and respectful, they may be able to get close enough to find a nest (which appears to be made primarily of stolen trousers) with six big griffon eggs inside it. As long as no one is loud or threatening, the griffons will eventually chill out about their presence enough to let people pet them—just don’t touch the eggs.

Buttons and Flea have a similar predicament, though they haven’t actually built a nest and Flea has not laid her eggs. Buttons, with his missing wing, can’t leave the Gallows or easily make it to the top of the tower where the rest of the griffons reside. (Don’t worry, Flea loves him anyway.) If everyone is very soothing and gentle about it, it might be possible to guide them to one of the Gallows’ quieter unused ground-level courtyards and supply enough soft material for them to decide it’s a decent spot to nest. If they do, there will be another five eggs laid there by the end of the month.

It might also be a good idea to warn everyone else not to harass the nesting griffons, at risk of losing their eyeballs to their claws.

HOW: You can make everything a group effort if you want, or divvy things up however you like. And it doesn’t matter what you RP—you can handwave a fight and just write the clean-up and recovery after it, or just write your characters discussing a moral quandary instead of logging out the actual event, or announce something via crystal without logging it out. Whatever is fun. Just make sure you also submit a report that summarizes what happened, including anything you handwaved.

ETC: Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello! Thanks for signing up. You got the darkspawn!

WHO: Inessa and Kain. You can also involve other people! However, be careful about risking exposing non-Wardens to the taint for no good reason, etc.

WHEN: Try to have a report done by the end of April.

WHAT: Like it said on the tin, darkspawn are harassing travelers in the Vinmark Mountains, culminating recently in a pack of shrieks taking out nearly an entire caravan and leaving a few survivors to later quickly succumb to the taint. Inessa and Kain will be able to track them down using their handy dandy Warden senses, though the shrieks will feel them coming, too, and retreat into caves where they hope to use the dark and their familiarity with the tunnels to their existence.

Other than the band of shrieks, there will be a moderate number of other darkspawn that can be sensed in the area, mostly underground. Ambushing them will be impossible, for obvious reasons, but traveling deeper into the caves will eventually lead everyone to a portion of the Deep Roads that's build up into the mountain, near an underground river source. The darkspawn will be concentrated deeper down in the dwarven ruins, and if they have the idea that they outnumber the Wardens they can sense, they may come after them.

The problem can be solved once and for all—at least in this part of the mountains—by intentionally collapsing the narrow tunnel leading from the Deep Roads to the mountain pass.

You're welcome to make the fights with the darkspawn as difficult as you want, add a merchant or two to save, set traps to take more of them out, or whatever else, as long as it doesn't change the assignment too much.

Hello! Thanks for signing up. You got the missing shipments!

WHO: Anders and Teren. You can also involve other people!

WHEN: Try to have a report done by the end of April.

WHAT: As stated, supplies intended for the Wardens in Kirkwall have gone missing, but the merchants responsible insist they were successfully delivered. Tracking down those merchants will reveal matching stories—and letters—from the Warden-Commander of the Free Marches in Ansburg, who has been directing those merchants to route shipments to Ansburg rather than Kirkwall so that they can be properly distributed.

The situation requires delicate handling, because the Inquisition's Wardens haven't publicized that those in Ansburg are even shadier than normal Wardens and not to be trusted. One merchant might be persuaded to ignore the directive from the Warden-Commander and send things to Kirkwall, but others will be uncomfortable with the idea if it's presented to them. They do more business with Ansburg, and they're also very aware that the Wardens could just take their goods instead of buying them if it came to that.

Solving the immediate issue of the already-stolen supplies could be handled several ways: Anders and Teren can decide to give them up for lost, intercept a current shipment before it gets to Ansburg and steal it back to avoid taking an additional loss, try to steal some of it back, etc. They're also welcome to take measures to try to solve it longer term, or to report back/make a discussion post for Wardens to decide what to do about supplies specifically or Ansburg more generally.

Senior Wardens,

The Research division received a report that Warden Bethany Darton privately threatened an Inquisition ally (Mlle. Baudin). Speaking with those involved confirmed that Warden Darton attempted to act upon her words, but was turned away from Baudin's residence.

Both parties were cooperative, forthcoming, and described a hostile verbal exchange prior. Neither expresses a desire for further contact. The threat was non-magical, non-severe, and unsuccessful; Warden Darton claims to have shortly after contacted Warden leadership.

Regardless, I'm obligated to state that the Inquisition cannot condone acts of physical violence against, or within its body. Warden impunity does not extend to our organization, and a rash moment might ripple. As a mage living in Hightown, Warden Darton’s position is particularly vulnerable to scrutiny.

The Provost is presently engaged elsewhere. In his absence, I recommend that Mlle. Baudin’s and Warden Darton's mutual wish for separation be enforced, and that Warden Darton be reminded of how to silence her crystal.

    Respectfully,

    — Casimir Lyov, Research secretary.

    SUBJECT: Darkspawn in the Mountains
    PARTICIPANTS: Kain, Inessa
    DATE FILED: Cloudreach 15
    STATUS: Ongoing
SUMMARY: Darkspawn attacks started to increase throughout the Vimmark Mountains, culminating in a shriek attack that took out an entire caravan. Kain called in Warden reinforcements to help him hunt down these foes, and stop them from reaching the surface.

    REPORT:

    My fellow Wardens,

While I was spending time in the mountains, I came across some travelers with worrying accounts of darkspawn sightings and attacks. This all culminated in a terrible attack on a caravan. I didn't arrive in time to save anyone. For that, I am deeply regretful. But I did learn more details from the survivors before they succumbed. I determined it was shrieks responsible for the attack. Of course. They do have a habit for setting up ambushes.

The numbers I'd been warned of were troubling. I could sense their tainted presence, as they retreated from the area. I acted swiftly to call for aid, and together, Warden Serra and I tracked these shrieks to a cave. The tunnel system we encountered was very long and meandering. The darkspawn were concentrated some distance within, in near overwhelming numbers. Fortunately, we succeeded in our battles against them.

Interestingly, the place where we fought appeared to be a section of the Deep Roads, located near an underground river. Given the near endless numbers of darkspawn, it soon enough became apparent that we had no choice but to cut off their route out to the mountains, once and for all. There were just too many to reasonably kill them all, even if we'd brought along reinforcements. Together, we enacted a plan to collapse the narrow part of the tunnel, cutting off that section of the Deep Roads, sealing the darkspawn inside.

The area should be safe again for travelers. Or… as safe as it can be… but I'm sure they appreciate only facing more standard enemies, such as bears. At least bears are good for meat and fur. Darkspawn are good for nothing whatsoever.

I plan to keep an eye out in the mountains to be safe the threat is truly vanquished. For the time being, I don't sense anything amiss.

    Respectfully,

    Warden Kain Ventfort

    SUBJECT: Griffon Weirdness
PARTICIPANTS: Carver Hawke, Bethany Hawke, Myrobalan Shivana, Audra Hawthorne, Inessa Serra, Alexandra Karahalios
    DATE FILED: 1st of Bloomingtide
    STATUS: Ongoing
SUMMARY: Carver and Bethany, along with other aforementioned folk, noticed that certain griffons (Flea, Buttons, Uggie and Burp specifically) were acting strangely. Carver, Inessa and Audra tailed Uggie and Burp to see what they were doing while the rest stayed behind to investigate Flea and Buttons. It was discovered Burp and Uggie were attending to their clutch of eggs in the cliffside, while Flea and Buttons were trying to find/make a nest for theirs.

    REPORT:

    To the senior Wardens:

Odd behavior was noted in a few of the griffons lately, in particular Uggie, Burp, Flea and Buttons. The former two have been taking to leaving the roost frequently, and the latter two have been acting distressed and angry. My sister and I, along with Myrobalan Shivana, Audra Hawthorne, Alex Karahalios and Inessa Serra happened to be in the tower together a short time ago and got to discussing it. Some theories were thrown around. Ultimately we launched two separate investigations. Inessa, Audra and I tailed Uggie on griffon-back to see where he and Burp have been going, while Bethany and the rest stayed behind to see what was bothering Flea and Buttons.

The short answer to both investigations: eggs. Uggie and Burp mated, and Flea and Buttons did as well. Uggie and Burp have a clutch of eggs in a cave along the cliffsides nearby. They got very territorial when we approached, but once we sent our griffons off, they relaxed and allowed us to approach. They wouldn't let us touch the eggs, but we got close enough to count six eggs in their nest. Flea and Buttons had a harder time. I'm not certain what the issue was: I don't know if Flea couldn't build a nest without Buttons' help, or if his inability to fly prevented them from finding a decent spot for the nest.

Either way, Bethany, Alex and Myr were able to assist and found a spot for the nest. It's in an abandoned courtyard in the Gallows, not far from the tower. Flea eventually laid five eggs. We're keeping an eye on both nests, but overall the griffons seem to be managing just fine.

I'd like to make an announcement over the crystals regarding the nest in the courtyard so some idiot doesn't go wandering in there and get torn to shreds by angry griffons. Or worse, accidentally bring harm to the nest. All in all, though, this is good news. If all the eggs survive, we'll have eleven new griffons to the roster in time.

Hopefully with less stupid names, too.

    Respectfully,

    Carver Hawke

To sign up for an assignment, reply to this comment with the below form by June 10.

ASSIGNMENT: SCOUT THE DEEP ROADS UNDER THE HUNTERHORNS
WHAT: The Deep Roads beneath the Hunterhorn Mountains may be controlled by, variously, red lyrium-tainted darkspawn, enemy Wardens, or Kal-Sharok dwarves. Go scout for potential Deep Roads passages into the Anderfels that are clear or could feasibly be cleared to allow moving in and out of the country without running into or aggravating any of those parties.
WHERE: The Deep Roads under Orlais/the Anderfels
WHEN: By the end of Solace.
WHO: 1-2 Wardens, 2-3 non-Wardens of their choice.

    ASSIGNMENT: REVISIT VIGIL'S KEEP
WHAT: Since the Wardens vacated Ferelden around three years ago and Cousland has died, Amaranthine has had a new Arl installed. Visit Amaranthine and Vigil's Keep to meet with the new Arl and discuss the return of, if not the entire fortress, at least the money and goods the Warden left behind when Clarel called them to Orlais.
    WHERE: Amaranthine, Ferelden.
WHEN: By the end of Solace.
WHO: 1-2 Wardens, 1-2 non-Wardens of their choice.

    ASSIGNMENT: ESCORT FORMER WARDEN-COMMANDER CLAREL
WHAT: Former Warden-Commander Clarel has been in Inquisition custody for some time now, and says she is hearing her Calling. The Wardens have permission to take her from Skyhold and escort her to the Deep Roads so she can join up with the Legion of the Dead and die the usual way—but no one will know if she dies before she gets there, either. It's up to the people guarding her.
    WHERE: Skyhold, potentially Orzammar.
WHEN: By the end of Solace.
    WHO: 2-4 Wardens.

Thanks for volunteering! You got Vigil's Keep!

WHO: Nathaniel & Anders (I know Anders was also interested in Clarel but since we only have like six Wardens anymore I think doing only two makes more sense, Clarel next time, etc.) plus up to two additional people of their choice.

WHEN: Try to have a report in by the end of July!

WHAT: Vigil's Keep hasn't been occupied by Wardens since they were called to Ferelden by Clarel, and Amaranthine has a new Arl, but all their shit is—theoretically—still there. Taking back the fortress itself isn't a priority, since they don't have that many people to put it in it at the moment, but securing any money, goods, and other mobile or liquid assets is. Your characters' mission is to visit the new Arlessa of Amaranthine, the daughter of Lord Eddelbrek (now deceased) who was elevated to Arlessa following acts of heroism during the initial period following the Breach, and talk her into giving up the goods without souring any relationships. Or break in and take them and we can blame thieves later. Either way.

ETC: Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for volunteering! You got the Hunterhorns scouting.

WHO: Inessa and 2-3 additional people of her choice.

WHEN: Try to have a report in by the end of July!

WHAT: With the roads closed and the Hunterhorn Mountains being apparently patrolled by Ander forces, one possible way to get in and out of the country is underground. Using maps of likely routes—not the known Deep Roads or anything controlled by Kal-Sharok, but the side passages and older trails mapped by Wardens in the past—your character will be tasked with poking around to look for clear routes under the border that don't appear to be used by Kal-Sharok, darkspawn, or Ander Wardens, while dodging all three of those and generally avoiding detection.

Your characters' success will be limited at best: the best passages, clearly unused and large enough for people to fit through without risking getting stuck, will all have problems, such as caved-in portions or broken bridges. But most of those problems will be fixable, with supplies and enough manpower, if the route is needed in the future. You're welcome to have skirmishes or close calls with darkspawn or Ander Wardens, add in a cave-in or other hazards, etc.

Would there be anything of interest on the bodies of the Ander Wardens they fight? Maps, codes, etc? Would they be able to get any usable information out of a Warden captured alive? (Inessa will not resort to torture, but she's not going to be particularly gentle and forgiving, either.)

There might be, but it isn't something we accounted for when putting in the plot request and so on (which I still have to get approved even though I'm a mod haha) so we don't have anything prepared! You're welcome to use maps or whatever found on bodies to have them figure out the information they're there to learn, like what passages the Ander Wardens already know about and use, but information beyond the scope of that would probably need to be a new plot request.

SUBJECT: Scout the Deep Roads under the Hunterhorns
PARTICIPANTS: Inessa Serra, Kain Ventfort, Newt Scamander, Fingon
    DATE FILED: Late Solace
    STATUS: Complete
SUMMARY: A team was sent to find an undergrounds means of crossing the border into the Anderfels. Thanks to Ander forces, darkspawn and a cave-in, this was far from an easy task. However, they have emerged with useful information.

    REPORT:

    Senior Wardens,

Our efforts under the Hunterhorn Mountains have met with some success. Thanks to the efforts of all involved -my fellow Warden, Kain, along with Newt and Fingon- we were able to map some possible routes for the Inquisition and our order to utilize as they see fit. This method is not without numeours hazards, though we attempted to trace paths more likely to avoid darkspawn-heavy areas and Ander patrols. Said hazards have other forms, as well; caved-in portions (and cave-ins, of which we directly experienced--thankfully, no one met with any lasting injury), broken bridges, and the like are marked down, though I believe most issues are surmountable with enough manpower and supplies. A difficult, dangerous area--but that is nothing new to the Grey Wardens, is it? Hopefully, we can make it a little more survivable for our allies, as well.

    Respectfully,

    Inessa Serra
